Kicking cancer’s ass on the golf course

On Tuesday, July 16, Colorectal Cancer Canada (CCC) held our third annual Kick Ass Golf Tournament at the Lebovic Golf Club in Aurora, ON. This event was a tremendous success, raising over $100, 000 in support of CCC’s programs, services, and advocacy work which helps us to demonstrate that colorectal cancer (CRC) is preventable, treatable, and beatable!

Highlights of the day included a live auction, Ken Shaw ’s (CTV News Toronto) masterful emceeing, and a young patient speaker who shared his experience with colorectal cancer. Diagnosed with stage III CRC at age 29, Steven described the moment he received such shocking news from his doctor. Sadly, his story is not an exception to the rule. This year alone, an estimated 26,900 Canadians will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and many of those are individuals younger than 50. Steven ended his speech by encouraging everyone, no matter the age, to be screened for colorectal cancer if they were experiencing symptoms.

Stories like Steven’s confirm the need for CCC to continue our efforts in ensuring equal and timely access for effective treatment and accurate diagnosis to improve patient outcomes… and to kick colorectal cancer’s ass.
