2,700 VISITORS PASS THROUGH GIANT COLON TOUR AT THE SHERBROOKE HALF MARATHON
The Centre de recherche of the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS) and Colorectal Cancer Canada (CCC) presented The Giant Colon Tour at the site of the Sherbrooke Half Marathon on Saturday, June 29th at Parc Jacques Cartier.The Giant Colon Tour attracted event participants and members of the public who heard about the event from the various local media outlets. Over 2,700 visitors of all ages passed through the Giant Colon and received information about this preventable, treatable and beatable disease!
The Giant Colon Tour is CCC’s multimedia exhibition that features pathologies of the human colon, including polyps and colorectal cancer (CRC). The exhibit is animated by CCC’s professor in residence, Dr. Preventino. Captured on 5 video displays, Dr. Preventino guides participants through the 40-foot-long Giant Colon while providing lifestyle tips to keep you and your colon healthy.
This exhibit is also an opportunity for patients and members of the public to ask questions regarding the prevention and treatment of CRC. Frank Pitman, CCC Patient Support and Volunteer Coordinator, as well as Dr. Nathalie McFadden, colorectal surgeon and professor-researcher at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Sherbrooke and the CHUS were present at the event to discuss colorectal cancer in addition to other digestive issues and CRC screening guidelines.
